Chris, I really appreciate your writing and honesty. Do you have any recommendations for those of us who'd like to learn more about meditation?

Thanks Michael.

I may not be the best person to ask as I stumbled through my own meditation practice without any proper guidance, mostly relying on my intuition and divine guidance. That part is so hard to explain, I'm not sure it is even possible, but basically, withing us is an inbuilt intelligence, a form of energy, that can guide us through the process. I relied on this higher power or higher intelligence to guide me, by practicing surrender.

In general, meditation is best learnt from a teacher, although the book "The Mind illuminated" has been recommended to me many times, that would be a good place to start.

Thanks, always appreciate your kind words and recommendations.

I looked into Thomas Merton and I found this important bit of info that paralleled some of my own experiences:

"Since there was no autopsy, there was no suitable explanation for the wound in the back of Merton's head, "which had bled considerably."["

When I had the mystical experience I described above, I escaped into the Godhead through that opening at the top back part of my head. Months later I had an NDE, where I hit the back part of my head, same spot that was found in Thomans Merton's case and again exited my body temporarily, only to return. I have since learnt that this opening is called the mouth of heaven and Buddhist monks for instance will go to great lengths to open it, some even resorting to a chisel and hammer. It is where the soul exits the body upon death or through mystical experiences. Neat little coincidence, huh?

The quote you posted also resonates, certainly a common experience to feel universal lover during mystical union with God.
